Nokia W7 and W8 tipped as first Windows Phone models

Rumored HTC Desire HD specs surface: 4.3-inch screen, 8-megapixel camera

We didn’t have a ton of details on the so-called HTC Ace when it turned up in a leaked roadmap last week, but a fresh set of rumors are now suggesting that the Ace is actually the Desire HD, which will reportedly pack a number of HD-esque upgrades ove…

Manufacturers redirecting R&D on declining GPS device orders?

If you enjoy the decimation of an industry as much as Google does then you’re going to love the latest rumor sourced from DigiTimes' manufacturing moles. According to the Taiwanese rumor rag, personal navigation device R&D teams at the manufacturing powerhouses of Foxconn (aka, Hon Hai) and Wistron have been shifted to other devices in the face of "declining PND orders." Seems logical as GPS-equipped smartphones snuff out their dedicated forebears with the same converged precision that turned wrist watches into items of fashion. The strange part of this DigiTimes rumor is that said manufacturers have shifted those PND teams to focus on e-book readers and (are you ready?) MIDs. Man, if the world’s largest manufacturer of consumer electronics sees MIDs as a more economically viable option than personal navigators, well, maybe things are more dire for TomTom and Garmin than originally feared.

Mysterious HTC Android phone spied, might lean the way of the Dragon

In an almost perfect world, this spy shot would be of the rumored HTC Dragon, reminiscent of the HD2 with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and packing the latest version of Android / Sense UI — in a more perfect world, this would all have been confirmed last week and in our hands today delivered via unicorn express, but that’s obviously not happening. Still, there’s something new and exciting about this device, but we’re grasping at straws beyond the handful of pics The Unlockr managed to obtain, several more of which can found just beyond the read link.

Mysterious Android touchscreen MID pics surface, Charles Fort notified

It sure seems like the world is ready for an Android MID or, until it gets one, rumors and leaks to that effect. Tell us, what do you make of a slate-style device featuring the word “android” in the appropriate font, pics of the thing browsing the web (which, truth be told, look just as real as they could be ‘shopped in), a couple perfunctory specs (Rockchip CPU, somewhere between a 4.3 to 5-inch display, 3G, MSN Messenger and GTalk, WiFi) and a source for the images that fails to cough up names / links to the “handful” of Chinese tech sites that are allegedly all a-buzz about this thing? Well, we don’t know either — but if you do get your hands on one of these guys, send it our way, will you? Thanks — and in the meantime, hit that read link for the whole sordid tale (and a couple choice pics).

Re-Rumor: Apple Tablet Coming in October, Priced at $800 [Apple]

The China Times is now reporting that the endlessly-rumored Apple tablet isn’t just coming somedaya fair bet—it's coming soon. It'll land in October, to be exact, when we should expect to pay around $800 for it.

The story of the Apple tablet has been one of hearsay and gossip from the start, and this report, despite coming from a respectable newspaper, is no different. Translation courtesy of the MacRumors forums, and our polygot tipster:

Taiwan’s high-tech supply chain companies said Apple will debut its first netbook in October; Apple will pose itself to tackle the Christmas shopping season. Three corporations – Foxconn, Wintek, Dynapack have received direct orders from Apple.

To anyone who’s been following this story, this will sound familiar: Wintek was the company previously said to have supplied a bunch of touchscreen panels to Apple for use in a tablet—a narrative that lost a little steam after a no-show at WWDC. But bearing a resemblance to previous rumors could mean two things: either the China Times has been able to independently confirm something true, lending it credence; or they—or their sources—are simply echoing rumors. The pricing rumor is subject to the same suspicions:

Because Apple will adopt touch screen technology on its netbooks, Apple will not target low-end consumers, avoiding direct competition with Acer, Asus, as well as their less-than-500-dollars netbooks. Apple’s netbook (or a “tablet” as many call it,) will probably be sold at around $800 USD each.

Even assuming this is true, it’s strictly a hardware rumor, and doesn’t answer one of the most important questions regarding the tablet: what the hell kind of OS will this thing run? Two takes. [Macrumors--Thanks, puffnstuff!]

Sony Ericsson “Rachael” Android XPERIA handset unveiled?

Hello, beautiful. Danish phone site Mobil has uncovered “internal documents” on what appears to be Sony Ericsson’s upcoming Android-based handset, an XPERIA number codenamed Rachael. Under the hood is a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, HSPA and an 8 megapixel camera. It’s unclear how big the touchscreen is, and other details are scarce — there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, so that’s nice, but unless we’re severely misguided, there doesn’t seem to be a slide-out keyboard tucked away inside this thin chassis.
