Mio stuns at CeBIT with ultra-sleek Moov V780 MID

Uh, folks — we’ve an identity crisis on our hands. Is this a MID with a penchant for navigating? Is this a PMP with pre-loaded maps? Is it an ultra-sleek navigator that just so happens to play music? There’s a fair chance the world will never know, but we’ll soon be stopping by Mio‘s booth at CeBIT in order to get a view of things ourselves. At any rate, the Moov V780 is undoubtedly one of the most appealing things to come from the outfit in quite some time, offering up 720p multimedia playback, an HDMI output, digital TV support, a 7-inch (800 x 480 resolution) display, 600MHz CPU, 512MB of memory, 4GB of onboard flash and a pretty tremendous list of supported file formats. Sadly, it’s humming along on Windows CE (rather than, say, Android), but at least it ships with WiFi and optional WiMAX. There’s no mention of a price or release date, but we’ll be on the hunt for those tidbits as soon as the show floor opens up.

Manufacturers redirecting R&D on declining GPS device orders?

If you enjoy the decimation of an industry as much as Google does then you’re going to love the latest rumor sourced from DigiTimes' manufacturing moles. According to the Taiwanese rumor rag, personal navigation device R&D teams at the manufacturing powerhouses of Foxconn (aka, Hon Hai) and Wistron have been shifted to other devices in the face of "declining PND orders." Seems logical as GPS-equipped smartphones snuff out their dedicated forebears with the same converged precision that turned wrist watches into items of fashion. The strange part of this DigiTimes rumor is that said manufacturers have shifted those PND teams to focus on e-book readers and (are you ready?) MIDs. Man, if the world’s largest manufacturer of consumer electronics sees MIDs as a more economically viable option than personal navigators, well, maybe things are more dire for TomTom and Garmin than originally feared.

Dell Streak is a 5-inch Android 2.0 MID, packs 3G and WiFi (video)

Well, hello there! Those Dell MID rumors we’ve been hearing have finally received vindication in the form of a nice, picture-heavy leak courtesy of some industrious folks in Vietnam. What we know as of now is that there’s an 800 x 480 capacitive touchscreen display (with multitouch zooming), WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G WWAN connectivity, all riding atop an Android 2.0 (aka, Donut Eclair) install. A dual-LED flash 5 megapixel camera adorns the back, and there’s a 1,300mAh battery to power all that goodness. See pics below and a video awaits after the break, where an old friend of ours plays with the jumbo smartphone.

eviGroup’s Android-based Wallet MID debuts in France (avec video)

Haven’t found a tablet or MID to your liking just yet? Then you may just want to wait another 24 hours, 'cause that's about the rate they seem to be cropping up these days. This latest one comes from France's eviGroup, and distinguishes itself somewhat by using Android for an OS, although there doesn't appear to be any UI customizations to speak of. Otherwise, it looks like this "Wallet" will be able to more hold its own, if not completely stand out form the pack, with it packing a 5-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 8GB of internal memory, a miniSD card slot for further expansion, an integrated digital camera, and the trifecta of built-in WiFi, GPS and 3G. Still no word on a release over here, but the folks at eviGroup are promising to launch it in Europe at the "beginning of 2010" for €300 (or about $440), and they've kindly gone ahead and put together a thorough video overview that you can watch right now (after the break).

Did Someone Track Down the Mysterious Android MID? [Android]

Remember that iPhone-like Android MID that everyone went crazy about yesterday? It looks like someone may have tracked it down. Manufactured by SMiT, the device is called the MID-560. And it’s got decent specs.

That’s a 5-inch touchscreen with an impressive 800 x 480 resolution. And internally, an 533/667MHZ ARM 11-based Samsung 6410 chip should run the device as quickly as any smartphone with codec support including AAC, OGG, DivX, XviD, and H.264.

Storage stays light by maxing at 8GB, but a miniSD card slot offers lots of expansion. Wi-Fi and GPS are standard.

Sadly, even if you were to import the thing, you wouldn’t be able to take advantage of CMMB mobile TV broadcast support (DVB intended for the Chinese market). But such is life in the US.

So is the MID-560 our mystery MID? Maybe, but it’s tough to confirm given that we only have a low-end render. And Pocketables, the source of the original shots, is still not convinced. [SMiT via Shanzai]

Mysterious Android touchscreen MID pics surface, Charles Fort notified

It sure seems like the world is ready for an Android MID or, until it gets one, rumors and leaks to that effect. Tell us, what do you make of a slate-style device featuring the word “android” in the appropriate font, pics of the thing browsing the web (which, truth be told, look just as real as they could be ‘shopped in), a couple perfunctory specs (Rockchip CPU, somewhere between a 4.3 to 5-inch display, 3G, MSN Messenger and GTalk, WiFi) and a source for the images that fails to cough up names / links to the “handful” of Chinese tech sites that are allegedly all a-buzz about this thing? Well, we don’t know either — but if you do get your hands on one of these guys, send it our way, will you?
