Galileo sat-nav system back on the map, said to be ‘up and running’ by 2014
Remember Galileo, Europe’s proposed GPS-like satellite navigation system? It’s back in the headlines, and according to the Telegraph, UK-based Surrey Satellite Technology and Germany's OHB System have jointly secured €566 million (that's $815 million in US currency) to build 14 more satellites. The funding continues until 2013, whereby 22 satellites will be order. Full satellite navigation requires 27, and ultimately the European Union wants 32 technological waypointers. Launch date? Apparently 2014 — we're hopeful, but this road has been wrought with delays before.

Nissan introducing low-cost navigation systems this January
Now here’s a good idea: a built-in GPS navigation system that’s actually priced to move. Co-developed with Bosch, Nissan has put together a $400 option with a 5-inch touhcscreen, Bluetooth support for phones, USB connectivity for media players, iPod integration, XM Satellite and NavTraffic. The Detroit News was certainly impressed, testing it on a new Sentra and calling it a moment where the benefits of the built-in nav systems outweigh the costs — although the display was maybe a bit too small for its liking. iPhone graced with HTC’s Sense UI theme, beauty ensues
Sure, Taiwanese HTC Magic owners might be happy today, being promised Hero’s Sense UI via official channels, but thanks to the hard work from Redmond Pie deviantART member Justflikwalk, this very stylish skin has jumped species and landed on the iPhone. A jailbreak is required, but once past that hurdle, you’ll get a new home page with the ever-so-classy time and weather widget — which isn’t always 73 degrees and sunny, we might add — a quick launcher for apps / contacts, and of course some modified icons. All pertinent files for the theme and step-by-step instructions are available via the read. Care to gaze upon the awesomeness using the power of moving pictures? Video after the break.

MOTONAV GC550 GPS device found in FCC filing, nowhere else on the internet
Here’s an interesting case. A new Motorola GPS unit, the MOTONAV GC550, has popped up in a filing to the FCC. It’s got external photos, a full manual, all the relevant tests, the works — and yet, somehow as of this writing, it seems to have never been mentioned anywhere on the internet, at least as far as Google, Bing, and Twitter are concerned. From what we can glean from the manual, the touchscreen device sports 3D mapping, voice commands, Bluetooth pairing with your phone for hands-free use, a microSD slot (presumably for updates like the previous models), Google local search, and information on weather, traffic, and flights. Not contained in these unearthed documents, unfortunately, is price or release date. Come on, Moto, don’t keep us waiting long.

CrunchPad coming in November with built-in 3G connectivity, says Straits Times
Last we heard, TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington wasn’t ready to talk about a timeframe for the release of his self-proclaimed “science project,” the CrunchPad tablet. That’s not the case for The Straits Times, however, who’ve published an article claiming that developer Fusion Garage is aiming to get the device out to the masses by November of this year, just in time for Christmas shopping. The Singapore newspaper got a sneak preview of the device, as well as some new specs. The tablet reportedly about 2.64 pounds, has a 1.6GH Intel Atom and 1GB RAM (which we knew), a USB port for keyboard and / or mouse, built-in WiFi and 3G connectivity, and a port for mobile broadband. Price is estimated around $400, a little bit more than the $300 he pegged in April, but it’s still being filed in the “unconfirmed” category for now — hopefully it comes out a little leaner when this thing goes official.
